Former world No. 1 Naomi Osaka pulled off one of the biggest upsets of Wimbledon 2026, knocking out current world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets to book her place in the quarter-finals.
Osaka produced a dominant display to defeat the tournament’s top seed 6-2, 7-6(2), ending Sabalenka’s title hopes and reaching her first-ever Wimbledon quarter-final.
The victory also marked Osaka’s first win over Sabalenka in eight years after losing to the Belarusian three times earlier this season. It is her sixth Grand Slam quarter-final overall and her first outside the hard courts.
With the stunning result, Osaka continues her impressive resurgence and will now face Karolína Muchová for a place in the Wimbledon semi-finals.
